Garden cress, or rather seed pepper (Latin: Lepidium sativum) is an annual plant of the cabbage family. It comes from South-West Asia and Egypt, but nowadays it is also popular in Europe and North America. It is also appreciated by the people of India. Its popularity stems from Due to the fact that it is a very undemanding plant, it is easy to grow it at home and enjoy its characteristic, slightly spicy taste at any time of the year.

Cress for Easter – an important rule

Cress for Easter has a chance to appear, but you need to provide it with the right conditions. In order for cress seeds to germinate quickly, they should be warm, moist and bright. Sown on a layer of very moist cotton wool or lignin, it is good to cover them with transparent foil and put them on the windowsill, above the radiator. Seeds will start to sprout a day or two after sowing, remember to keep the cress moist, so it is worth spraying it with water from time to time. In the five days until Christmas, the seedlings should be about four to five centimeters tall.

Cress for Easter, but not only

Green cress, apart from being an effective decoration of the festive table, gives dishes a slightly spicy taste, it also has quite a lot of vitamins and healing properties. Cress seedlings provide us with vitamins A, C and K, they are also a source of potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron, they have antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. For this reason, it is worth making sure that watercress appears in our menu more often than once a year.
