Edward Dymek was only 13 years old when he made his debut in the series “Holidays with Ghosts”. The role of Mandarin in the production based on Adam Bahdaj’s novel was only one of three. In Stanisław Jędryka’s series, Dymek starred alongside Henryk Gołębiewski and Roman Mosior. All three quickly became the most popular children in the 70s. Dymek also met them on the set of the drama “Abel, Your Brother” directed by Janusz Nasfeter.

A year later, he again starred alongside Henryk Gołębiewski in the TV series “Podróż za single smile”. The production directed by Jędryka was also Dymek’s last performance. The young actor played the role of a lisping Papuan, i.e. Jacek Piróg, a rascal and traveler from Radom. Dymek and Gołębiewski became friends, but eventually their paths diverged.

In later years, he joined the army, and his difficult character meant that he even ended up in a penal unit in Orzysz. – In the heat, they made me run 40 kilometers with heavy equipment on my back. They wanted to humiliate me, smother me, but no one succeeded – years later in an interview. – I had a recalcitrant, restless nature, I couldn’t find a place anywhere, I was always carried away – in 2008 in an interview with “Życie na hot”.
Alcohol ruined his life. “I could have had everything, but I have nothing”
After leaving the army, he got married and started a family. A daughter, Marzena, was born. Unfortunately, the former child actor, like his colleague Henryk Gołębiewski, fell into an addiction that eventually ruined his life. Alcohol also destroyed his family. The wife left Dymek, and finally the man settled in a hovel in Wrocław and lived on a pension of PLN 400. To survive, he collected scrap metal. He used to ask his neighbors for food. – I can only blame myself for everything. I was not a proper husband and father – after years.
At the end of his life, he lived in a dilapidated house, without electricity and sewage system, in Brochów. Wrocław’s district is not famous for its good opinion. He lived in abandoned houses in allotment gardens, slept in staircases. – I could have had everything and I have nothing. Maybe I was too young and stupid to understand and appreciate it he recalled in 2008. Edward Dymek died on July 29, 2010. He was 53 years old.
