The ideal position for this plant is a sunny place. It grows well on cultivated and loosened soil. Lovage will not cope with clay, acidic, drainage or dry soil. It is planted directly into the ground from seeds placed at a depth of 2-3 cm in two dates. In early spring, e.g. in March or April, or in late summer, e.g. in August, until the end of autumn. However, there is one very important thing to keep in mind – lovage should be sown before the first frosts, and with their arrival, it should be covered with, for example, a layer of compost, so that it can survive peacefully until the next spring. It requires regular watering, because the lack of water will strongly affect its growth rate. It copes poorly with drought and the presence of weeds that take away nutrients from it. Lovage is harvested throughout the growing season.
