Looks don’t make the woman. Uniqueness and individuality is a showcase of femininity

Looks don’t make the woman. Uniqueness and individuality is a showcase of femininity

Every woman plays different roles in life. She is a daughter, mother, student or boss. With the passage of time, it changes, matures. However, deep down in his heart, he still remains himself. You have to try not to drown out your uniqueness and not to chase media ideals. That’s why it’s worth sharing your experiences, as the guests of Martyna Kaczmarek’s “Cia³o¶æ” podcast do. – Our body is perfect and capable of perfect things – emphasizes Patrycja Jaskot, journalist, blogger and traveler, known as @travelover.

Culturally and socially, women are entangled in image traps. But there is a place for everyone on stage and it’s better to support each other than to give in to complexes, because “it’s not right” or “it’s right”. It is also worth freeing oneself from the slavery of stereotypes, which say, for example, that “a woman is a wolf to a woman” or “as they see you, that’s how they write you”. “Body” is a space where extraordinary women tell their extraordinary stories. Appearance is not everything, which does not mean that you should not take care of your body wisely. The more women believe in certain trends propagated in social media, the more often they start to dislike themselves.

“I’m good enough just the way I am”

Life isn’t about being perfect. It is important to cultivate the feeling that I am good enough just the way I am. Let’s not condemn ourselves because we have stretch marks or cellulite. What’s the advice for that? Listen to your inner critic and remind yourself that each of us lives her own life and her body tells the story of this life. The beginning of the journey to achieve a harmonious fullness of body and mind is self-acceptance, i.e. loving yourself here and now, not some time later, when “I will lose a few kilos and be like influencer X”.

Patrycja Jaskot recently gave birth to a daughter. – I am still Patricia, but recently I have a new role. I am building a mother’s identity, he explains. Pregnancy and motherhood teach her e.g. the difficult art of letting go and rejecting the ubiquitous pressure to “embrace everything at once” – work, home, appearance. – We wind ourselves up, but are you sure – says Patrycja.

– I have always felt that I am a person who has a lot to offer the world and I have not defined myself by my appearance. But it doesn’t mean that I didn’t have problems with this look, I did a lot of work on myself. I talk to a lot of women and I realize that over time we distance ourselves more and more and separate our worth from what we look like, she explains.

The Internet and social media are flooded with photos and accounts of women who regained their perfect figure right after giving birth, wear a size 36 again and slip into tight pre-pregnancy jeans. It is a toxic message that leads to complexes and makes those who fail to do so feel inferior. “I came home after three days in the hospital and thought it was amazing what my body had done. How cruel I would be if I wanted to push myself to lose weight – says Martyna Kaczmarek. He adds that there is a lack of proper education. Women’s bodies are very different, each goes through pregnancy and the postpartum period differently. There are no ideal situations. It is important to understand the processes that take place in the body and “whip yourself ridiculously that the pants are too tight”.

Traveling is Patrycja’s passion. She has already visited over 60 countries and intends to continue to travel. She starts taking her daughter with her, although she realizes that it may happen that the child will not share her passion. – Reflecting on my motherhood, I thought that the child would fit into our lives. I can’t lock myself in the house. I have been traveling for many years. My dream is to show Michalina the world in this way, stresses Patrycja Jaskot.

“Body positive” means perfectly imperfect

Martyna Kaczmarek promotes topics related to body positivity and acceptance of one’s body. She was the first plus-size model in the house of Top Model. The Cia³o¶æ Foundation, which she founded, works to provide psychological support to people experiencing eating disorders and discrimination based on appearance.

The idea of body positivity is based on the belief that the key to a good life lies in having a positive attitude towards your body, regardless of whether you meet the binding canons of beauty or not. Physical beauty is an aesthetic category, a social construct that changes over time, is not objective and absolute, so it should not affect the self-esteem of an individual.

The term “body positive” appeared in 1996. This social movement gained momentum when the media began to define the canons of beauty. Though it doesn’t stop there. It also points to the need to combat prejudice against appearance, which is related to racism, ageism or homophobia.
