When to sow tomatoes? This is the best moment, so you better not miss it

Planting tomatoes from seeds. What to do to get beautiful seedlings and when to pick tomatoes?

If you have already stocked up on tomato seeds, it is best to provide them with light and well-drained soil. The ready-made substrate for sowing will be checked.

  1. Fill the planting container with soil and compact it slightly.
  2. Put 1-2 seeds on top of each hole. If the dish is large, leave a gap of about 2 cm between the holes.
  3. Push the seeds into the ground about 0.5 cm.
  4. Cover them with soil and water moderately.

Tomatoes prepared in this way should be stored at a temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius. When sprouts appear, it is good practice to lower the temperature to around 19 degrees during the day and 14 degrees at night. Seedlings should be regularly watered and sprinkled.

Pickling tomatoes can be done when the plant releases the first true leaves. The method involves separating seedlings that are growing together and transplanting them into separate pots. In this case, pots with a diameter of about 10 cm filled with peat substrate will work.

When to plant tomatoes in the ground? Better wait until “cold Zośka”

If you are going to plant tomatoes in the ground, wait until May 15, i.e. “cold Zośka”. After this date, the risk of severe cold or frost decreases. Seedlings should be placed in the soil on a cloudy day. It’s best if the ground is warm. This makes the seedlings more likely to take root.
