A mural commemorating Krzysztof Krawczyk was created in Warsaw’s Ursynów district. The work is located near the musician’s former residence, and on the wall of the building we can see a quote from one of his hits.

On April 5, 2023, it will be two years since your death. In the last years of his life, the singer experienced a second youth due to the fascination of the next generation with his great hits. The star began to appear at juwenalia across the country and play for audiences several times younger than himself.

The memory of the artist is also celebrated in modern ways. Artists record covers of his songs, use samples of hits in their own compositions or create murals, equivalents of old monuments. One of them was built in Warsaw’s Ursynów district.

In September 2022, the authorities of the Ursynów district of Warsaw announced a competition for a mural with a size of 190 square meters. The project was supposed to concern the work of Krzysztof Krawczyk. The competition was won by Łukasz Zasadni from Nietak Painting Artistic, who presented the best project according to the voters. The muralist admitted in an interview with the haloursynow.pl portal that working on this type of project is the most valuable for him.

Social murals are more interesting, they give us much more fun as creators. Due to the fact that this mural has a message, it is supposed to commemorate this person, it stays for years, and commercial murals change when companies go bankrupt or change owners – often they are only for a moment. This mural, I know that in 10 or 20 years it will still please the eye of the residents and will become a permanent symbol of this place – Zasadni explains.

The work was created on the northern wall of the Ursynów Museum at 8 Barwna Street. The wall was not chosen by chance. At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, Krawczyk lived nearby – in a block of flats at 10 Pięciolinii Street. Moreover, he once expressed his love for Ursynów in a single containing two songs dedicated to the district – “Welcome to Ursynów” and “Znalazłem się na Ursynów”. Zasadni quoted a fragment of the first one on the mural.

It took the artist almost a day to create a tribute to Krawczyk. As the muralist admits in an interview, it was about 20 hours from the moment he climbed the scaffolding. Probably the pressure of creating a tribute to such a popular artist was even greater due to the uniqueness of the very building on which the work was created. The mural can be seen on the wall of a three-story tenement house, which is the oldest building in Ursynów Północny.

The ceremonial unveiling of the mural with the participation of the singer’s widow, Ewa Krawczyk, will take place on April 12.

Interestingly, right next to the tenement house there was an unattractive garbage shed in a faded color. It was located in such a place that it was difficult to miss it while admiring or photographing the mural. City officials found a way around it.

According to the mayor of Ursynów, the shed was painted by a street artist known under the pseudonym Franek Mysza. His works can be admired all over Poland, and recently also in Warsaw’s Ursynów. The artist created an image of a mouse on the shelter, which happily greets Krawczyk with a short “Hej Krzychu”. The colors chosen by the artist perfectly harmonize with the mural in the background.
