In 1996, she appeared as Erika in an episode of “Friends”. Her character was a stalker who was obsessed with Dr. Drake Ramoray – the character Joey (Matt Le Balnc) played on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Since the “Friends” scenes were filmed in front of the audience, Shields’ then-partner was able to watch the footage from the audience seat. As it turned out, he didn’t like the role Shields got – he made a wild fight at home, during which he destroyed a large part of his sports trophies. The actress told about the incident with “The New Yorker”.
Andre Agassi was enraged by the role of wife in ‘Friends’
The screenwriters ” wrote quite bold and unusual scenes for Brooke Shields. In one of them, her character Erika was supposed to lick Joey’s fingers – of course, as part of extreme worship for the brilliant surgeon. After the first attempt, the producers wondered if it might not be better to give up this element, because they worried that it was too “crazy” behavior, but in the end the gag stayed in the script.
“In this scene I had to lick Joey’s fingers because they are the hands of a genius and I want to devour them and I’m crazy. Matt was cute, he told me he washed his hands and they were absolutely clean, I told him I ate a mint,” she described the work on the Shields plan. They did so well that the producers started to come to the recording. “They were screaming, ‘Shields, put it back on!’ Suddenly the energy changed and a lot of guys in suits crowded into the studio. The next day they asked if I wanted my own TV series,” Yahoo.com reports.
The episode, as it turned out later, had a record viewership – it was watched by about 57 million viewers. Brooke Shields did, in fact, soon after take on the role in And Now Susan, for which she was nominated twice for the Golden Globes and for which she won the 1997 People’s Choice Award. However, her partner (they were married from 1997 to 1999) watched the recording of the strange scene and, unlike the people on TV, was not thrilled with what he saw:
Andre was cheering for me from the audience and suddenly ran out of the room. He told me: Everyone makes fun of me. You made a fool of me by acting like this. I told him: It’s a comedy! What are you all about?
Only later did Shields learn that Agassi was using methamphetamine at the time, which may have contributed to his outbursts of anger and irrational behavior. Nevertheless, the actress came to the conclusion years later that in this way the former partner distracted from her professional successes and put herself in the center of attention.
