It’s a man-orchestra. He takes photos, makes films, bakes cakes, travels, collects vinyls. He combined music with visual art while starting another project in which he created portraits of stars using magnetic tapes – he immortalized e.g. Dawid Podsiadło and Artur Rojek. Since 2021, he has been running the @okladki_z_klockow account, where he publishes graphics inspired by LEGO bricks and the Polish music scene. However, the idea itself appeared a few years earlier, which is why many of the works are the most important albums released in 2018.
Polish music is not indifferent to him, he is not indifferent to Polish music
Mikołaj Kozak is not only passionate about the work of representatives of the Polish scene, mainly alternative, but he is also closely associated with it. He created music videos for songs by Coma (“Biale Krowy”), Czesław Mozil (“When Daddy Slept with Mama”) or the group Mucha (“Wyjątkowo Zwyczajnie”) using animation techniques. However, it also immortalizes reality, e.g. having a reportage from the Open’er Festival from 2018 in the portfolio. On Instagram, in addition to a private profile, he also runs a photo account that serves as a portfolio and a phenomenon – @okladki_z_klockow. The profile has already been observed by almost 40,000 people. users, and new content is still regularly published on it – currently Kozak is promoting Kuban’s album entitled “Peace”, which he also recreated in a brick version.
The artist was associated with Danish bricks even before his birth.
My story with LEGO began at the moment of my birth, actually a few months before it. There is a story in my family. When my mom was pregnant with me, my older brother was driving a LEGO fire truck over her pregnant belly.
– he told in an interview for KMAG. Later, it turned out that inconspicuous toys are also useful in the profession – when working on video clips or learning stop-motion animation, he used minifigures.
Block covers – who can we find on Instagram?
Kozak’s profile is not only niche artists. One of the first works was the reinterpretation of the album cover of the duo Karaś/Rogucki. The gallery also featured some of the most popular contemporary performers – Mata, Julia Wieniawa, Bryska, Ralph Kaminski and Dawid Podsiadło.
The graphic artist also reaches for the classics – on Instagram we can also find covers of Kult, Edyta Bartosiewicz, Obywatela GC, Hey or Siekiera, as well as those inspired by vinyls from the Polish Jazz series, including Komeda Quintet.
Many artists personally appreciated his work. The cover of her own album in the LEGO version was shared by, among others, Mary Spolsky.
However, Kozak claims that not all covers are suitable for alteration. All because of the limitations in the anatomy of the block figures and their proportions in relation to the block environment. Although the works are created in a graphics program – they are not photos of real figurines – many issues can be bent, but the artist tries to make the effect as authentic as possible. The process of creating many covers is published in the form of rolls on Instagram. More graphics by Mikołaj Kozak can be found at
