WWF Earth Hour. What is it about?
Where did the Earth Hour campaign come from? It is one of the largest social campaigns aimed at sensitizing people to problems related to e-mail. It was initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature, i.e. the World Wide Fund for Nature operating since 1961. The task of the organization is to stop the degradation of our planet and to create a future in which man will be able to function in harmony with nature.
Earth Hour is an extremely media action that aims to make people around the world reflect on climate change and increase sensitivity to the problem of excessive energy consumption by individuals and companies. Every year it takes place on the last Saturday in March. By the way, another environmental problem is raised. A symbolic gesture that connects people participating in the Earth Hour is to turn off unnecessary lights, which remain off for 60 minutes. Hence the name of the enterprise.
Earth Hour Earth Hour 2023 – another year with a well-known action
Earth Hour 2023 is taking place once again. The first such action took place in 2007 in Sydney. Then it was a success, because it was attended by over 2 million people. After just one year, the number of participants increased several times. Since then, Poles have also been eagerly involved in the Earth Hour. An example is also given by numerous local governments that turn off the lights in town halls and the most recognizable buildings in the country for an hour. The action itself, although it has a limited impact on the actual consumption of electricity, is of great importance when it comes to stimulating human sensitivity.
Earth Hour 2023 – an important initiative
Why is Earth Hour 2023 so important? This year it is dedicated to the pressing problem of the loss of biodiversity. Few of us realize that the extinction of species is an incredibly dynamic process. According to the latest WWF Living Planet Report, over the last 50 years, the number of monitored animal populations has decreased by as much as 69 percent. If we do not protect nature and the species living in it, this dramatic trend will deepen. In turn, the destruction of biodiversity is also a catastrophe for the people who depend on it. Earth Hour is a good opportunity to talk about it and make decisions accordingly.
