The paradise that we all hope is closer than it seems, this is how ‘Paraíso siteriano’, the new play by Teatro del Cielo

The play is available on Fridays and Saturdays in November in the multi-arts room of the Centro de Arte Theater, at 7:30 p.m.

We all have our idea of paradise: a utopia of abundance and eternal life, an ideal that shapes our actions and projects in order to get closer to it every day. This is what Grel and Avelina, the protagonists of siterian paradise, the most recent staging of the company Sky Theater, available on Fridays and Saturdays in November at the Theater Art Center.

“These characters are longing for a fictional paradise, which is only in their minds, and in that desire they live in a locked house, without contact with the real world, just preparing for the arrival of this paradise,” he explains Martin Peña, director of Teatro del Cielo and who also directs the play.

Another way of understanding siterian paradise, says Peña, it is like a manual that tells the characters how to live and behave, in order to earn this paradise.

“It’s a totally absurd work, but I consider it absurdly real, considering that a lot of people are expecting things, like ‘the best tomorrow‘, but they forget to live today and do not realize what they have at this moment ”, illustrates the actor specialized in the technique of dramatic body mime.

The idea of the closed house, where Grel and Avelina (in the skin of actresses Yanet Gómez and Frances Swett) are strengthened as ‘Siterian’ women in a dark and pathetic world, it really represents one mind closed‘, “Who says I am like that, I will not change, to try to deceive himself, or perhaps alleviate fears,” adds the playwright of this story.

“I feel that there are many people who live like this, in terms of their religion, politics or philosophy of life: they do not open their eyes to see life as it is presented to them and they do not realize that by being like this they are damaging their existence … work shows all these lessons ”.

For more than eight months, Peña has been working on this dramaturgy, which was created while it was being assembled. “I create on the go, I never write the story before and then tell it, but it is created simultaneously.”

For this reason, Peña promises a powerful scenic display, with an impressive visual expressiveness, as is characterized by Teatro del Cielo. The spectators will feel immersed in the thought of each woman, they will be part of her emotion. “All the scenic composition is the representation of his internal world; for the viewer this becomes a sensory journey, because it is complemented by a play of lights, smoke, a combination of sounds and movements ”.

And what is the Siterian? “Nothing,” confesses Martín. “I did not want to fall into a specific or anecdotal topic. To refer to this unreal paradise, I prefer a universal language that people identify with their own situations. That is why we are looking for an imaginary term ”.

siterian paradise premiered on November 12. Their performances are still available this Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20, and then the other weekend, November 26 and 27. At 7:30 p.m., in the Multiartes room of the Centro de Arte Theater. Tickets are $ 15 at the theater box office.
