Wojewódzki to 16-year-old Grzeszczak: This song is a death sentence. She disobeyed and embarrassed him

Sylwia Grzeszczak is currently one of the most recognized Polish singers, and most of her singles hit the first place in the list of the most played songs on Polish radio stations. The singer knew from an early age that she cared about her musical career and tried her hand at, among others, in “Idol”. At the age of only 16, Grzeszczak faced harsh jurors who almost asked her to leave the room when they heard that she wanted to sing “I Will Always Love You” to them.

It can be said that Sylwia Grzeszczak ate her teeth on TV. As a 5-year-old, she appeared in the program “From Kindergarten to Opole” and sang “Byle jest tak” from Krzysztof Krawczyk’s repertoire. She chose an even more demanding piece to present to the “Idol” jury members, Jacek Cygan, Elżbieta Zapendowska and Robert Leszczyński. The singer was only 16 at the time and literally threw herself into the mouth of a lion.

Wojewódzki told her that this song is a “death sentence”

she has an impressive vocal, and she also developed her skills intensively in a music school. Fortunately, her nerves did not disappoint when, almost at the very beginning of the audition in the program, Kuba Wojewódzki started joking even before she started singing. At the very beginning, the jurors asked the teenager what she would sing to them – when she mentioned the title of the hit known from the movie “Bodyguard”, Robert Leszczyński first said that it was “forbidden”, and Wojewódzki said that it was a “death sentence”. Dziarska Sylwia replied that she knew what had earned her some recognition from Leszczyński. “If we leave during the song, that means we didn’t like it – okay?” Wojewódzki added.

Fortunately, Sylwia was amused by his jokes and sang with full force in her lungs. On TikTok alone, the audition recording has 5.6 million views:

Nobody left the room, but they ordered her to sing something in Polish – here the choice fell on “Małgośka”. The most severe was Elżbieta Zapendowska. She admitted at first: “You have a great voice”, but then added – “You sing cleanly and decently, but more ‘fairly’ than ‘decently'”. When Sylwia sang a piece of “Małgośka”, she said – “That’s enough, I already know: I’m for yes”. In the end, they unanimously let her pass. Sylwia was eliminated in the group stage, but she did very well later in her career.

It is enough to recall that Kuba Wojewódzki invited her to his talk show years later. What’s more, during the conversation, he challenged her to rub Edyta Górniak’s nose, who claimed that there was no singer in Poland who could sing “I Will Always Love You” on the go. Grzeszczak did it – even with laryngitis:

She started in “Idol” in 2004, and in 2008 her debut studio album “Ona i on” was released, which she recorded with Liber. There were singles such as “New Chances”, “Co z nas” and “Mijamy”. In 2011, Grzeszczak conquered the radio charts with the song “Little Things”, and her second studio album “Dream about the future” hit the top of the OLiS sales list. Later, she won Gold record, and then a double platinum certificate (over 60,000 copies sold) for the album “Composing yourself”, nine Eska Music Awards, three SuperJedynki, Bursztynowy Słowik, RMF FM listeners’ award, Telekamera and Wiktor.
