It was supposed to be beautiful love and a wedding like in a fairy tale. Because of him, Violetta Villas gave up men forever

Her father decided about her first marriage. Then great love broke her heart. She tried to find happiness at the side of a millionaire. Their wedding, which went down in history, is still impressive today.

Violetta Villas, an outstanding artist known for her outstanding voice and characteristic image reminiscent of Hollywood stars from the 60s. On stage, she wore spectacular ball gowns, and her hallmark was long, curly blonde hair. She was born on June 10, 1938 in Belgium. She spent her childhood there. In 1948, she came to Poland with her parents. Villas’ four-octave vocal range heralded an operatic career for the woman, which she eventually gave up in favor of stage performances. As one of the first Polish stars, she made a career in the United States.

In her songs, she repeatedly wrote about the search for true love, which she also missed in her private life

Her first marriage was decided by her conservative father. When she was 17, he decided to marry her off. She was to become an exemplary wife and mother. After years of Violetta Villas in Gazeta Wrocławska admitted:

He wanted me to be a housewife with a bunch of kids. When I was 17, he married me to a man much older than me. And it didn’t help that I was defending myself.

Villas bore a son to her first husband. In 1957, she left her husband and little son and fled to Szczecin to continue her vocal education. In 1958, the couple divorced.

Then the artist became involved with the music critic Jerzy Ekiert. Despite the strength of their feelings, the couple did not decide to formalize their relationship.

Violetta Villas’ heart was broken when, after returning from the States, she found out that her beloved was already with another …

During Villas’ stay in the States, Jerzy Ekiert became involved and married the pianist Lidia Grychtołówna, which Villas found out about only after her return in 1969. After a painful breakup with a man, Violetta tried to heal her broken heart with Ted Kowalczyk, an American millionaire with Polish roots whom she met while on tour. In later interviews, Violetta Villas confessed that Ted Kowalczyk begged her to marry him. After a few months of dating, the woman agreed to the wedding.

The wedding of a Polish diva and an American millionaire has gone down in history

The wedding of Violetta Villas and Ted Kowalczyk took place on January 6, 1988 in Chicago. The wedding ceremony lasted five days and was estimated to cost over $300,000. As many as 1,500 guests were invited to the party. Violetta Villas then showed up in as many as 21 creations. Her husband gave her a white mink coat as a wedding gift and a black Cadillac worth almost $40,000. The whole thing was captured by the film crew.

After a lavish wedding, the couple went on honeymoon to Honolulu. Soon after the wedding, the spouses realized that they had more in common than they had in common. In addition, Villas found out that her husband in Poland has a wife with whom he is married in a church. She then told him to put things in order with his first marriage. But he didn’t take her words to heart. For Violetta, it was the end of love.

Violetta Villas recalls her second marriage with these words:

It was a violent, passionate and somehow beautiful love. But there is no love without jealousy and there is no jealousy without love – as my song says… And this jealousy separated us.

Ted’s perspective, however, was different. A man in an interview with Super Express he said:

Life with Violetta was like acting in a sensational movie. Action all the time! No guy has ever experienced anything like this. I don’t know, damn it, what sin did God punish me with Violetta?!

Ted Kowalczyk never forgave Violetta that she left him. He gave a dozen or so interviews, in which he did not leave a dry thread on her. Villas, on the other hand, gave up on men, as she summed up in one of her recent interviews:

I gave up on men. I have been chaste since my divorce from Kowalczyk.

Violetta Villas transferred all her love to animals, whom she helped until death in the shelter she created.
