Among the works awarded at the Oscars, one of the most notable was “Navalny,” a film that won the Best Documentary Award for its resounding message against Vladimir Putin’s government and Russia’s war on Ukraine.

This film focuses on the story of Alexei Navalny, his rise as a leader against Putin, the moment he was poisoned and his sentence to nine years in prison on trumped-up charges of fraud.

Currently, the Russian man is serving his sentence in Siberia, while his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, moved by the initiative, lent her voice to narrate the events of this film, as published by El Confidencial.

At the award ceremony, Navalny’s wife uttered a few words in honor of her husband.

“My husband is in prison for telling the truth, for defending democracy. Alexei, I dream of the day when you are free and our country is free again. Be strong,” Yulia said on stage.

In turn, the director of ‘Navalny’, Daniel Roher, said that due to his status as a political prisoner, the man was unable to attend the awards ceremony for the documentary in his honor.

“There is someone who cannot be here tonight: Alexei Navalny, the leader of the Russian opposition, who is in solitary confinement for speaking out about Vladimir Putin’s unjust war against Ukraine,” he said.

The film was produced by HBO Max and CNN Films, ‘Navalny’ premiered on January 25, 2022 at the Sundance Film Festival and had already been awarded at the British Bafta Awards, as El Mundo noted.
