She wanted to give her daughter a serious name with a “p”. However, the Polish Language Council advises against it

The name is one of the elements that make up the first impression. His choice should therefore be well thought out by parents. One woman considered giving her daughter a Latin name meaning “wise.” However, according to the Polish Language Council, the girl may not be satisfied with it in the future.

For many parents, choosing a name for a child is a real challenge, over which they spend months before welcoming their child into the world. However, there are people who are looking for very original and rare names to make their child stand out from the crowd. The problem, however, is that sometimes the effect is opposite to the intended one, and instead of admiration, there is shame and hatred of one’s name, which sometimes even leads to changing it.

She wanted to name her daughter Prudence. The Polish Language Council advised against it. She may not be pleased

One of the mothers considered naming her daughter Prudencja, but she had some doubts, so she asked the members of the Polish Language Council if it would be possible at all. Prof. dr hab. Walery Pisarek, who gave the answer, claims that although there should be no problem with naming the girl Prudencja in the office, he is not convinced that she will be satisfied with such a name in the future.

The name Prudence is the female equivalent of the male name Prudentius, which is derived from the Latin adjective prudens meaning “prudent”, “wise”. Although the names Prudencja and Prudentius are very rare in Poland, they are mentioned in many dictionaries of names, e.g. in “The Book of Our Names” by Józef Bubak. I do not expect that you will be refused to issue it in any of the registry offices in Poland

– explained Prof. dr hab. Walery Pisarek. – On the other hand, I am not sure whether my daughter will be happy with this name in a few years, because it is a very serious, dignified name and it is not easily diminutive: Prudzia? Prunia? But love cannot overcome such difficulties.
