Peter Lanzani, one of the protagonists of Argentina, 1985the only Latin American feature film nominated for an Oscar for Best International Film has admitted to crying before the awards ceremony.

Lanzani, his co-star Ricardo Darín and director Santiago Miter shared their excitement and emphasized the film’s “humanistic” approach in an interview with the TNT television channel.

Argentina, 1985 tells the story of prosecutor Julio Strassera and his deputy, Luis Ocampo, as they began a trial against the members of the military junta that formed a dictatorship that oppressed the Argentine people between 1976 and 1982.

Despite the weight of the case, the other incumbent members of the judicial function refused to participate, so Strassera and Ocampo had to work with a team of students.

“The approach is deeply humanistic, it reminds of all the people who suffered… today, in the midst of all this bustle, we don’t forget that,” Darín stressed about the film’s content.

During their red carpet performance, they also reported being greeted with shouts and salutes by a group of Argentines dressed in gaucho soccer team jerseys on the sidewalk in front of the red carpet.

The Argentinian feature film was nominated together with close to (Belgium), Nothing new on the front (Germany), Hi (Poland) and the silent girl (France). The German film won the prize.
