This theoretically niche picture was a favorite at the 95th Academy Awards with 11 nominations – even before the ceremony began, the production was already the film with the most industry awards in history. The second most nominated films of the night are “Same in the West” and “Inisherin Ghosts”, which were selected in 9 categories.

Oscars 2023. Results without surprises

The first Oscar of the evening was awarded in the Best Animated Film category. The statuette was presented by Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Emily Blunt – he won Guillermo del Toro with his “Pinocchio” made for Netflix. This is his third statuette, the previous two won in 2018 for “The Shape of Water” – then he won the awards for film of the year and for directing. After a while, it got very touching. My mum is 84 years old and watches me at home. Mom, I just won an Oscar! My journey began on a boat, I spent a year in a refugee camp, and suddenly I landed on the biggest stage in Hollywood.

One of the most charming moments of the gala was the moment when the Oscar was received by the creators of “Irish Goodbye” – according to the Academy, the best short documentary film. As it turned out, James Martin, who played one of the main roles, had his birthday that day – the crew and the whole room sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

The creators of “No Change in the West” received the first statuette for cinematography. Featured cinematographer James Friend used to work as an electrician on set and decided to become a filmmaker at the age of 13 after seeing Alien. “It’s not my birthday today, but that’s how I feel,” he said, delighted.

After the crew of “Wieloryb” was awarded the Oscar for the best make-up, Jimmy Kimmel appeared on stage with a donkey. “He’s here to support us emotionally,” the presenter emphasized.
