Natalia Kukulska released her debut album in 1986. The album was promoted by two singles: “Puszek Okruszek” and “What Dad Says”. At that time, these songs were known to everyone. She was waiting for her mother at Okęcie. She was only four years old
On March 14, 1980, four-year-old Natalia Kukulska, together with her father and grandmother, were waiting at the airport for Annê Jantar. The singer traveled by plane Il-62 “Mikołaj Kopernik”, which flew from the United States to Warsaw. Anna Jantar was an icon of Polish pop at that time and often went on tour. SThe plane crashed 950 meters from the Okęcie airport where it was supposed to land. No one survived the disaster. 88 people died. – I didn’t understand what happened. I remember my grandmother snatching a bouquet of freesias from my hands and throwing them on the ground. I remember the ambulances that resuscitated families, alcohol was spilled to calm down – Natalia.
This song was a career springboard. “People watched my every move”
“Puszek Okruszek” brought Natalia Kukulska popularity. People loved a little girl with round glasses who sang a song about a dog in a sweet voice. – Dad, basically for a joke, wrote one song for me for the author’s program. Then it turned out that this joke met with great reception – in an interview Kukulska.
The family tragedy in the background made everyone sympathize with Natalia and support her in her career. However, media attention also had its dark side. People were watching my every move. Later it turned out that they can also be brutal. In addition to sympathy, there was a lot of malice from journalists: that my dad earns money from me, that he trains me – the singer.
She was stubborn and determined. She wanted her own style
Years passed, and Natalia wanted to distance herself from the image of a little girl singing “Puszka Okruszka”. – I was 17 years old and I wanted to cut myself off from the situation: my dad, my mother and “Puszek Okruszek” – she said. People expected her to go back to singing children’s songs or performing her mother’s songs. However, Natalia was stubborn and it paid off. She has had an amazing career.
Currently, Kukulska is happily married and has three children. In 2000, she married drummer Michał Dąbrówka. They have a son, Jan, and two daughters: Anna and Laura.
