This year, the jubilee 60th edition of the Polish Song Festival in Opole is to take place. In November 2022, a spokesman for the city office informed that work on preparations for the event, which is to take place in June, has already begun. However, in the meantime, a huge tragedy occurred, to which the government media contributed.
The president of Opole, Arkadiusz Wiśniewski, was very upset by this fact and decided to post a critical comment on his Facebook page towards the national media:
Boycott the cunning! I am for and I am calling for this, among others to Opole opposition politicians who willingly and densely appear in the editorial office on ul. Szpitalna. I haven’t been there for years and I can easily look in the mirror today
Wiśniewski also added: “This is not the first time that we see that the government media are targeting innocent people and spread hate. The murder of the president of Gdańsk during the WOŚP final did not become a turning point and did not cause reflection. Will it change now? “.
In his post, the president referred to the famous tragedy that recently happened in Szczecin, which was caused by the so-called public media. TVP Info, referring to Polish Radio Szczecin, in December provided information that facilitated the identification of victims of a pedophile and their mother’s political activities.
What next with the Festival in Opole?
In connection with these words of the president, the Wirtualne Media portal asked the Opole magistrate to comment on the organization of this year’s National Festival of Polish Song, which the city of Opole is preparing together with Telewizja Polska. It turns out that Wiśniewski does not plan to give up the joint preparation of the event:
It is worth distinguishing current affairs programs and news from entertainment programmes, said Arkadiusz Wiśniewski
The spokesman for the town hall, Adam Leszczyński, added: “Can we refuse artists the right to perform at the 60th edition of the Festival?” In the rest of the statement, we can read the justification for these opinions: “The tragedy in Szczecin once again shows the savagery of the public media. There is no justification for such a situation. Hence, the president is counting on a boycott from politicians who go to TVP, where they are indiscriminately insulted, and information about them is manipulated. The president himself has been treated in this way many times by the local TVP editorial office. Without a clear boycott from politicians, there is no point in trying to take other actions. Unfortunately, they will probably lack the courage to do so again.”
