From the field to the TV! Lionel Messi will star in an animated series inspired by his childhood

A new series about the childhood of the popular footballer Lionel Messi is in production.

Development is in the hands of Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division, in collaboration with Leo Messi Management SL. It is an original animated series inspired by the childhood of an Argentine football star.

Rodrigo De Paul tells the story behind the famous photo of Messi sleeping with his arms around the World Cup; “he wanted to take a terrible picture, I told him to lie down and I gave him the mate”

In fact, the plot will show Messi as a child as he encounters obstacles while traveling through a video game. The production is aimed at children and young adolescents and features original music by Sony Music Entertainment artists and composers.

“Since I was a kid I have always loved animated series and my kids are big fans of animated characters. Being able to participate in an animation project makes me happy, because it fulfills one of my dreams! I would like to thank Sony Music for participating in this project and we hope everyone likes the result, especially the girls and boys,” Messi shared in reference to the announcement.

Messi, the soccer player born in Rosario, is a global icon and an inspiration to millions around the world. In addition, Messi led Argentina to the World Cup in December 2022. Off the pitch, Messi is recognized for his sportsmanship and passion for the sport, which will be very much present throughout the series.

The series will be available in English, Spanish and other languages. Sony Music’s Premium Content Division will oversee the development and distribution of the series.
