The Oscar awards is how the award ceremony of the International Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which each year recognizes the productions and performances that stood out in the latest film releases.

During the ceremony, the winners of each category will receive the famous golden statuette as a prize. However, not everyone knows the origin of the name of the award, which is called officially Academy Awards.

The history of the Oscars goes back to the last century when the Academy was founded. The year was 1927 and representatives of various cinematographic arts met at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles for the formation of the group led by Douglas Fairbanks.

Two years later, in 1929, the newly established Academy presented its first awards in the Blossom Room of the Roosevelt Hotel with 270 in attendance. The list of winners had been known for three months, so the award ceremony was more of a formality than a surprise. The following year, the Academy decided to keep the winners secret and only provide a pre-list to newspapers.

People say that Margaret Herrick, the first female librarian at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, saw the statuette during the first editions of the awards and exclaimed that it resembled his uncle Oscar. Herrick commented on the resemblance to the ceremony’s organizers and attendees, and soon everyone began to nickname the award that way.

It wasn’t until 1939 that the Academy decided to call the awards the Oscars.Well, most members of the guild already knew him that way.

Since then, the ceremony has seen important moments in its history, such as in 1941, when the documentary category was created, or when a foreign language film was first framed in 1947.

In 1953, the gala night was broadcast in black and white, allowing millions of people in the United States and Canada to see it, but it was not until 1966 that the ceremony was broadcast in color.
