The artist died on March 3 at the age of 78. The cause of death of the guitarist was not given, but foreign media reported that he had been ill for a long time. One of Lindley’s family members reported in 2022 that the artist was hospitalized many times due to kidney problems, pneumonia or flu. A charity fundraiser was even set up online to help him fully recover.
David Lindley is dead. The artist was 78 years old
Drive-By Truckers member Jason Isabell posted a sad farewell post dedicated to the late musician on Twitter.
He had a huge impact on how my music sounds, if it wasn’t for him, it would be completely different. I was obsessed with his playing from the first time I heard it. He was a guitar giant, emphasizes Isabell.
He is not the only artist to emphasize Lindley’s enormous influence on his own development. Joe Bonamassa also sadly said goodbye to the guitarist, calling him “one of the greatest musicians of all time”.
Lindley loved stringed instruments. He played the violin, guitar, double bass, banjo, mandolin and more exotic – Hawaiian guitar, bouzouki, charango, oud and zither. Since the 1960s, he has been collecting rare instruments from the Middle East and other parts of the world.
In the 1960s, Lindley founded the band Kaleidoscope, which broke up after a few years. In 1972, Jackson Browne invited the artist to play in his band. The guitar and the voice of the deceased musician can be heard, among others, on the album “Running on Empty”.
Over the years of a long and fruitful career, the guitarist recorded and performed live with the biggest music stars such as Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Toto group, Rod Stewart, Joe Walsh and Ben Harper.
