Many inexperienced gardeners face the problem of the unexpected transformation of roses into rosehip bushes.

There are two reasons for this transformation. The first is associated with an incorrectly done vaccination: rosehip branches are left under the scion or there is an incompatibility between the stock and the scion. The second reason is errors in agricultural technology: soil overflow, insufficient attention to protecting the plant from pests, as well as improper pruning. Under such conditions, the rose begins to die, and the stock continues to develop.

However, experienced gardeners know that there are a number of signs that indicate the beginning of the transformation of a rose into a wild rose. You should pay attention to young shoots: in roses, before turning green, they have a reddish tint, in rose hips – a young shoot is immediately green. The second sign is the length and density of the spikes. In roses, they are longer and less frequent than in rose hips. Leaves can become the third signal for the gardener: in roses they have a wax coating and a more rounded tip, in rose hips they are matte and oblong.

But the statement that roses have only five leaves each is not entirely true: modern roses have five, and seven, and even nine leaves. You need to understand what specific variety you are dealing with.

To prevent the undesirable transformation of the rose, you should remove the earth from the roots, find the rosehip shoots and cut them off with a slight indentation along the root. Slices should be treated with crushed coal or a special tool that is used to process tree branches after pruning.

It is important to inspect not only the flowers, but also the soil around: the roots of the wild rose can produce shoots within a radius of up to two or three meters.

After three days, you can make a root dressing of the plant. To do this, it is better to use superphosphate mixed with water in a ratio of 1 to 10.
