In childhood, many people were told to give up their seats to the elderly. Today, this topic evokes a lot of emotions, and much depends simply on politeness and good manners. According to them, priority is given to the elderly, the disabled and pregnant women. In practice, however, it often looks a bit different. There are situations when a person directly demands to give up a seat, even though the passenger in the seat may need it more. This was the case with an anonymous passenger. She described the meeting with her mother on one of the forums for parents.

She traveled by train. A mother with three children demanded that she give them her seat
On February 19, an entry posted by one of the users appeared on the parenting forum. The passenger was traveling, returning home from visiting her father. In the entry, she presented the situation that happened to her at the time. At the outset, she indicated that she had undergone surgery some time ago.
I recently had shoulder surgery, but I don’t wear a sling anymore, so I don’t think I look injured. I sat at a table on the train. My backpack was on it and the nice guy dropped my bag on the shelf
– the author.
As the train pulled up to the next station, a crowd of passengers boarded it. Including three children. The woman approached the author of the entry and first asked if the two empty seats next to it were free. After receiving confirmation, she stated:
I have three children who need to sit down. Can they take your place?
The mother’s question stunned the author of the entry. However, she replied politely that she was out of surgery and standing on a crowded train would be painful. The mother again emphasized that she has three children.
I’m not interested in the number of your children. I’m staying here because I need it too. If you have any problem, report to the conductor
– the author. From the further report, it can be deduced that the passenger sitting opposite her gave up his seat to one of the children. Theoretically, the story had a happy ending, although it certainly left a bad aftertaste.
Internet users stood up for the passenger. “I don’t understand people’s mentality”
There was an uproar in the comments under the post on the forum. The author wanted to know if she had done the right thing and if her mother’s dissatisfaction was understandable. Most commentators, however, stood up for the passenger.
I don’t understand the mentality of people who have children. In my day, it was the children who stood and let the adults sit.
You were absolutely right. It’s really impudent to ask you to do something like that.
You were there first, the number of her children is not your problem. I assume you couldn’t book a seat? If you could, so could she.
And did she ask the person in front of you too, or just you? Let me guess, the person was a man, and she didn’t want to disturb him?
