The Japanese architect Shigeru Ban (Tokyo, 1957), known for using unusual materials such as paper or cardboard in his buildingsny for its “solidarity architecture” for homeless people, has been recognized this Thursday with the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord 2022, an award that was chosen by 36 candidates from 17 countries.
Founder of the NGO ‘Voluntary Architects Network’ (VAN), with which he has built homes in disaster-affected areas in Haiti, Japan, China, India, Turkey, Italy and the Philippines, Ban sees architecture as a way to improve society Y has made construction with affordable materials its hallmark.
That of Concordia, which last year it fell to chef José Andrés and his NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK), was the last award to be awarded of the eight awarded annually by the Princess of Asturias Foundation and which will be awarded in October in Oviedo.
