In just a few days, on February 7, 2023, the Seym will take place, during which Rafał Trzaskowski will read and present the bill “Liquidation of subscription and TVP Info”. The deputies will decide whether the assumptions made by the Legislative Initiative Committee have a chance to be effectively implemented.
High TV subscription. Who is exempt from fees?
Over 100,000 were collected under the draft act “Liquidation of subscription and TVP Info”. signatures. The proposal is supported not only by the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski (it was one of his ideas during the presidential campaign), but also by politicians from the Civic Platform.
According to the subscription rates currently in force, a year of using the radio is PLN 104.40, and from television as much as PLN 327.60. The following are exempt from fees:
- people over 75 years of age,
- disabled people with the first disability group,
- veterans with a certificate of being war or military invalids
- persons who have reached the age of 60 and are entitled to receive an old-age pension, but its amount does not exceed 50% of the average salary per month.
Not just canceling the subscription. The applicants demand the removal of TVP Info
The bill, which will soon be considered by the Sejm, provides for a complete exemption from subscription fees, including the cancellation of existing arrears. In addition, the applicants demand the liquidation of the TVP Info program, thanks to which the expenditure on the TVP would be significantly reduced. The justification stated that the above-mentioned information and current affairs program is biased and, contrary to the applicable regulations, it is allowed to spread propaganda messages.
