In the last months of his life, Romuald Lipko could count on the support of his beloved wife Dorota. After his death, his widow recalled that although she was not physically next to him, she still felt his presence.

The creator of such hits as “Avenue of Stars” or “For the last penny” said that music is his great love. The co-founder and leader constantly emphasized that he owes his career and professional fulfillment primarily to his wife Dorota, who was responsible for taking care of the house and raising her son. The musician repeatedly mentioned his beloved, who was understanding for his passion and accepted weeks-long tours.

The beginnings of Romuald and Dorota Lipko’s love are material ready for a film. The composer met his future wife in the community center where he led the band Mirabelki. Dorota was captivated by his charming voice, but she did not immediately show that she was interested in him. The musician courted his beloved for a long time, and for each meeting he brought a bouquet of forsythias, which were the woman’s favorite flowers. In one of the interviews, the leader mentioned that diesel locomotives were his transport for dates. The tracks leading to the station passed near Dorota’s family home. Unable to wait for the meeting, Romuald jumped out of the speeding wagon. “I used to jump off the driver’s cab into my fiancée’s yard. I always had a bouquet of forsythia with me — in the “Uwaga” TVN program. Eventually, they both realized that they couldn’t live without each other. They decided to get married and quickly came to the conclusion that they were meant for each other. “She’s all wonderful, wonderful sex, wonderful love, everything that is the content of a relationship,” said Lipko about his wife.

However, life with the artist was not easy. When Lipko founded Budka Suflera, he was less and less at home. Numerous concerts made him a guest of their common nest. Despite this, Dorota tried to support her husband. She did not reproach him, because she knew that music was his true passion, and the stage was his element. “My wife is not the bitchy type, and I wouldn’t be able to stand one anyway, because I don’t like to argue. In difficult issues, we always reached a solution by talking. I think Dorota knew how much I love what I do – said the artist in an interview for the weekly “Świat i Lud”. Lipko even joked that it was thanks to frequent trips that his marriage lasted for so many years.

Soon they welcomed their son Remigiusz into the world. At that time, they also decided that Dorota would take over the duties related to raising the child, and Romuald would take care of the finances. – This was the division we had and it worked well – the singer argued.

The family idyll was interrupted first by illness and then by the musician’s death. The artist’s widow still feels his presence today

Although they formed a happy marriage for four decades, the idyll was soon interrupted by the information about the musician’s illness. In July 2019, doctors diagnosed Romuald Lipko with a cancer of the bile ducts of the liver. The composer underwent treatment, but the cancer was in an advanced stage. On February 6, 2020, the valued artist died. At the time of his death he was 69 years old.

The musician’s widow recalled that Lipko, although he was determined to overcome the disease, was prepared for any scenario. On the one hand, he believed that he would live, but at the same time he sensed that it might not work out – in the Pleiades. Dorota Lipko admitted that coming to terms with her husband’s death was a painful and long stage for her. She tried to find herself in the new reality, but the souvenirs reminded her of her deceased lover. She confessed that for many months she was unable to clean up the things left by Romuald. The duvet on the bed where he slept before going to the hospital was left as the artist had left it, and the suit he wore at the last concert was still hanging in the hall. “I miss Romek’s voice the most,” said the artist’s widow.
