Unlike his previous appearances, what is depicted in ‘impossible script’ by Roberto Noboa Vallarino of Guayaquil does not constitute a homogeneous series of paintings, but rather a collection of widely divergent impulses that are currently motivating the artist.

For this reason, it was the sample chosen by the NASAL project commemorating its second anniversary at the Pearl of the Pacific, located in Puerto Santa Ana (Santana Lofts, local 1).

“Anchored in a figuration of a speculative nature, these paintings They radiate different moods. Some evoke dreamlike spaces, where reverie turns into melancholy (Blue Night of February 2022); in others we detect sleeping characters who are instead part of delusional and confused groups, psychologically charged (An Impossible Libretto, 2022); while in others the encounter with certain animals is intriguing or potentially ominous (Owls and dogs, 2022)”, describes the text of the curator, by Rodolfo Kronle Chambers.

Left: ‘A rabbit for every day’, oil, acrylic and plush on canvas) and ‘The impossible script (impossible to film when everyone is asleep; they slept, but filmed in their dreams)’, oil, acrylic and collage on canvas.

The process of the artist, a graduate of Clark University, is essentially easy-going: “I have an idea of what I want… but as I do them, the characters give me a certain energy, or they start suggesting certain things about what might be around them”remark.

As Kronfle explains, certain elements stand out in the exhibit, such as diamonds (a prominent leitmotif in this show), vortexes of energy, characters trying to capture what is happening with camerasor the leading presence of rabbits.

“These symbols, in turn, are usually not sudden angles in his work, but eventually emerge with more force after hibernation, sometimes for years,” continues his curator. “To reinforce this point regarding the long processes that characterize his work, we’ve included a rather gestural and expressive painting from 2020. (A rabbit for every day, 2020-2021), where those animals are interwoven in a complex surface with a pattern of geometric stripes”.

Likewise, the autobiographical, inner life, hobbies or impact of images captured in childhood are the vehicle through which Noboa articulates observations. of existential rank above man.
