It would seem that we live under the same roof, but we were separated. We couldn’t play, we couldn’t talk, I couldn’t hug her. It was very traumatic. There were no feelings there, although nothing bad happened to us. In retrospect, I believe it was a love crime.

However, it was the physical and psychological violence that was the most severe. Nuns, but also twisted ears, ordered to kneel on peas and corporal punishment by older children.

My ears were so twisted, torn, they literally hung off my head. At the end of the week we were all gathered together and there was a public display of pantyhose. They were supposed to be white, but after a week of use they couldn’t be white! And punishment. If they didn’t hit us themselves, the older child was supposed to beat the younger one. We had no names. No one called me Olenko or Gwiazdeczko, as my mother called me. I was number eight.
