This year it will be 24 years since Małgorzata Ostrowska left the Lombard group. The conflict between the singer and Grzegorz Stróżak escalated to the point where the issue of copyright recognition went to court. There was one resolution – she had the right to perform the songs of the former band, but only if they were not recorded or broadcast live.

The bickering trio
In 1999, Ostrowska officially parted ways with the band and was replaced by Marta Cugier. Changes were already taking place in the line-up – initially Stróżak and Wanda Kwietniewska also sang Lombard’s songs. However, both musicians and management had their preferences.
There was a moment when the band said they didn’t want to work with me and would work with Wanda. Then our manager Piotr Niewiarowski stepped in and said that if I left, he would leave with me. This was probably the main reason why Wanda withdrew.
– said Ostrowska in the program “Attention!” TVN. However, this did not affect her relationship with Kwietniewska, and according to the person concerned, the event had a positive impact on the history of Polish song – in addition to Lombard, there was also a group of Wanda and Banda, co-authors of, among others. hits for the cult series “Siedem ¯yczeñ”.
It was a very good move. Of course, the first period was hard for me, but it was short-lived. The audience gained instead of one Lombard band, the Lombard band and the Wanda i Banda band. […] The most important thing is that our friendship did not fall apart. We have a very good contact and that is valuable.
– summed up the team leader. With Grzegorz Stróżak, however, she failed to maintain not only positive, but even neutral relations.
The Curse of “Glass Weather”
Throughout the years of cooperation with Lombard, Ostrowska not only lent a distinctive vocal, but also wrote lyrics for songs. It was from her pen that the flagship hits of the group came out, including “Pigeon Fluff” or “I’ve Had Enough”. However, the music was composed by Stróżak. As a duo, they created a total of 13 songs. Today we will not hear them in the original version. Ostrowska also has no right to create her own arrangements. This happened in the case of the KSW gala, where she performed “Gołębi Puch” with a changed composition harmony. Because it was done without the knowledge and consent of the music’s author, Stróżak took the appropriate legal steps and in 2009 he prohibited the recording and reproduction of Lombard’s works, regardless of the technique used.
This provision also concerned a former associate of Stróżak, Małgorzata Ostrowska. This is why “Szklana Pogoda” could have been performed by the disco band Boys, but it is in vain to look for recordings of the former singer’s concert. The song turned out to be unlucky, for example, during the festival in Opole, when the artist’s performance was removed from the TV and Internet coverage. The current composition of Lombard also intervened by phone when Ostrowska was to sing it with the choir in “Battle for voices”.
My artistic activities are closely followed. I make no similar claim to Lombard. If they want, they can sing songs with my lyrics. We have written a beautiful chapter in the history of Polish rock and it is not right to destroy it.
– she said. It should be emphasized, however, that although she is the co-author of many of the group’s hits, the text for “Szklana Pogoda” was written by Marek Dutkiewicz. Music – no change, Stróżak.
Through attempts at reconciliation to a mitigating sentence
The keyboard player admits that “it is not legally possible to prohibit” Ostrowska from performing songs written by her.
For years, I’ve tried to appeal to her honor and integrity, because in my opinion, a solo career should not be based on the repertoire of a band that someone left of their own free will to do their own things under their own name.
he added bitingly. The singer admits that she made a mistake by placing the song “Przeżyj to sam” on her solo album “Instinct”, in which she sings in a duet with Marek Piekarczyk. Originally, it was performed by Stróżak, so a firm reaction can be justified. It was different in the case of Mêski Granie from 2017, when Ostrowska was removed from the group performance of “Gołębi powder” (which she wrote the lyrics to and which she originally sang). Stróżak allowed the composition to be included in the compilation summarizing the event, but with Bela Komoszyńska on the lead vocal. He recognizes that the organizer has put him in front of a fait accompli, and although he should not agree to the publication, he did so because he “values Three”. Not enough to let Ostrowska speak.

Although the musicians were supposed to sign an agreement at the beginning of 2019, the case was reconsidered. The District Court in Poznań decided that Małgorzata Ostrowska may sing Lombard songs, of which she is a co-author, without restrictions, despite Stróżak’s objections. In 2021, his appeal was dismissed. Ostrowska is still focusing on her solo career. In 2019, she released the album “There are no empty places in the world”, and in 2021 she took part in the project of Jarosław “Jasia” Kidawa – “Kidawa feat Ostrowska & Ellie/Nikola”.
