As he himself claims, initially Olaf Lubaszenko wanted to cast someone completely different than Maciej Stuhr as Kuba Brenner. The director was looking for a man in his thirties. Out of hundreds of potential candidates, Lubaszenko chose the final two – the aforementioned Stuhr and Mateusz Damięcki. One was 22 at the time and the other was 18.
Interestingly, five years after the premiere of the film, computer gamers received a production titled in the same way. The game “Boys Don’t Cry” belongs to the point-and-click genre and is distinguished by unusual, cartoon graphics. The plot of the screen adaptation of Lubaszenko’s hit is based on the adventures of gangsters – Fred and Grucha, known from the big screen. The performers of these roles, i.e. Cezary Pazura and Mirosław Zbrojewicz, played them again, lending their voices to the characters.
