At the beginning of January, the Polish sensational film “How I Loved a Gangster” was included in the table of the most watched non-English-language productions on Netflix. This production was watched around the world for 10.5 million hours in its first week on the platform. The latest romantic comedy directed by Filip Zylber improved this achievement.
Polish movie again the most popular on Netflix
“Love Squared Again” is the sequel to the romantic comedy that premiered two years ago. The description reads: “The relationship of a well-known journalist and a down-to-earth teacher shakes to its foundations when she takes on a new job.”
Netflix viewers spent 12.8 million hours watching this production, which made it the number one spot on the list of the most watched foreign-language films in the world. On the other hand, in Poland, “Love squared again” has already been the most popular film for 11 days.
It is worth adding that popularity does not always go hand in hand with quality. That’s the case here. Despite the international success, the production receives poor reviews on Western film portals. On Rotten Tomatoes, we can find a link to MN Miller’s review from the portal, which writes about the Polish film:
Due to its sweetness, the film’s down-to-earth style seems dishonest, like most politicians
Netflix has about 14 million subscribers in Poland, and it can be assumed that Filip Zylber’s romantic comedy was watched by 2-3 million Polish viewers. For comparison, last year the most popular Polish film in cinemas was “Letters to M. 5”, which was watched by about 1.5 million people.
