A collector who witnessed what happened, Stephen Gamson, has declared to the local channel ‘WSVN‘ who witnessed how the woman he tapped the sculpture, which fell to the ground and shattered. At first, according to his account, he even doubted if it was a ‘performance’.
But it was not, and those attending the event gathered around what was left of the piece, while the staff removed the remains, as can be seen in a video recorded by Gamson himself. Luckily for the person responsible for the destruction, according to the aforementioned local newspaper, you will not have to pay for it, since the piece was insured.
The now vandalized work was a miniature replica of Koons’ popular 12-foot-tall, polished stainless steel balloon dog sculpture on display in Los Angeles.
