Strelitzia is a plant originating from Africa. In our climate it is grown as an ornamental pot plant. Strelitzia nicolai attracts with decorative leaves, royal – with beautiful flowers. Regardless of the variety, it is worth remembering important cultivation rules. First of all, provide the plant with as much sun as possible. Choose a smaller pot, because strelitzia feels best in quite tight containers. Also, choose a fertile substrate that will hold moisture well, but watch out for water stagnation. This can lead to rotting of the roots. The soil should be constantly moist, so water the strelitzia regularly.
What to fertilize strelitzia? Reach for reliable banana fertilizer
In the growing season and intensive growth of the plant, provide the fertilizer often, preferably every second watering. Products intended for flowering plants or fertilizers for tomatoes and cucumbers will work well, as they will stimulate flowering and provide strelitia with the necessary nutrients.
It is also a good idea to regularly fertilize the plant with homemade potions. Banana fertilizer works best. It will strengthen strelitzia, provide it with calcium, potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus. How to prepare it?
- Remove the peel from one banana as much as possible. Cut into smaller pieces.
- Put it in a liter jar and fill it with cold water.
- Seal it and leave it in a cool and dark place for a few hours, preferably for the whole day.
You can also prepare banana fertilizer from dried peels. Place them with the soft side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in an oven preheated to approx. 100 degrees Celsius and bake with the door ajar for approx. an hour, until the skins are dry. Finally, grind them in a blender.
