It’s not the chirigota of José Yélamo, but a little yes: Los mi alma is the name with which Antonio Álvarez’s group, better known as el Bizcocho, made its appearance this year in the Official Contest of Carnival Groups (COAC) of Cádiz. After enduring in the last edition of the COAC until the semifinal, this year Those from San José de la Rinconada (Seville) reach the final and they do it in style: first in the rankings of the unofficial Carnival juries.
“It’s going to be hard to win, but being in the final is already a dream“, nervously assures Yélamo himself, who defines “everything that is happening” as something “incredible”. The truth is that The my soul, with a more than catchy presentation and a hilarious staging, have won the hearts of many people from Cádiz this year. No wonder: the black humor, typical of Bizcocho, It is what the people from Cádiz enjoy the most when they follow the carnival contest.
The final is held this Friday, February 17, at the Gran Teatro Falla, where the entire contest has been held since last January, and to which a total of 13 groups arrive: four chirigotas, four comparsas, four choirs… and a quartet, the only one that has managed to reach the last phase of the COAC. The session begins, like all of them, around 8:30 p.m., and will last throughout the early hours of the morning, until well into the morning.
Each performance lasts half an hour, plus the disassemblies, assemblies and breaks between each one, mean that the final session will last until, probably, after 07:00 in the morning. And in all this hubbub, When will the ghosts of Los mi alma be seen on stage? It is not possible to say a specific time, because everything depends on how long it takes for events to unfold throughout the night.
However, the order of performance of the final of the COAC is already structured and more or less one can get an idea of what time each group performs. The Bizcocho chirigota, specifically, will perform around 05:30 in the morning, being the penultimate to go out to sing, just before the last comparsa, El embrujo de Cádiz, which will leave around 6:15 in the morning.
How have Los mi alma fared in the previous COAC phases?
Not bad, absolutely. Since the beginning of the contest, the chirigota The my soul has hit hard. Although the COAC scores are not known until the end of the contest, each day the points obtained by each group are announced according to the alternative and unofficial carnival juries, made up of experts in the matter of carnival who publish their rankings under criteria defined by the media for which they work.
Thus, in recent weeks we have seen how both in the preliminaries and in the quarterfinals those of Bizcocho have managed to place themselves in the top positions. Also in the semifinal, the last phase before tonight, Los mi alma have been highly valued:
