The second half of February is a great time to think about what vegetables from seedlings you are going to grow this year. You can sow cabbage, cauliflower or lettuce, as well as tomatoes or broad beans. The last two vegetables are also great for balcony cultivation, although it will be necessary to prepare appropriate containers and pots. Check how and when to plant tomatoes and broad beans.

When to plant tomatoes? When to sow tomatoes for seedlings?
Seedling preparation is the first stage of planting. This way will provide optimal conditions for germination and further development. Tomatoes for seedlings should be sown in March, preferably in the second or third week, at the latest in the first half of April.
Sow the seeds in containers and cover them with an approx. centimeter layer of soil. Place in a sunny and warm place, preferably on a windowsill facing south. For proper sprouting, tomatoes need the right temperature, between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. After about a week or two, the seeds should sprout. When at least two serrated true leaves appear, get to work on quilting, i.e. transplanting the seedlings into the appropriate containers.
When to plant broad beans? The best time is coming soon
Broad beans are also suitable for growing on the balcony, but you need to prepare containers or pots with the right depth, about 30-40 cm. The deeper the better. Choose a fertile and nutrient-rich substrate.
Seedling broad beans are best prepared from February 15 until the second half of March. Place the pots in a sunny place. Sow one at a time to a depth of approx. 4 cm. Soaked seeds will sprout after a few days, those not soaked before planting will need about a week. Once they sprout and clear leaves appear, transfer the seedlings to properly prepared containers. Before that, harden them for 7 days on the balcony.
What to plant in February? Not only vegetables for seedlings, but also flowers
February is also a good time to plant flowers. In the second half of the month, you can start sowing plants such as garden petunia, verbena, snapdragon, glossy sage, left-wing, impatiens, heliotrope or cornflower.
