During halftime of the Super Bowl game, trailers of the biggest productions and advertisements with the participation of Hollywood stars are broadcast, and you have to pay up to $8 million for 30 seconds of airtime. This year, the spot of the Irish band U2, which will start residing in the American city of sin, which is Las Vegas, aroused quite a surprise this year.
U2 will play its first concerts from 2019. But not in full composition
In the spot, we can see a huge ball that glides across the sky. However, in the message we hear: “An unidentified object was spotted in the sky.” This object has the face of a child who, when he finds himself in the desert, utters one word: achtung.
In the second half of the year, the group will give a series of concerts in a modern ball-shaped facility that can accommodate up to 20,000 people. viewers. The MSG Sphere Las Vegas is due to open in September this year and the U2 residence is set to celebrate its opening.
During these performances, the band will mainly perform songs from their most popular album “Achtung Baby”, which will celebrate its 32nd anniversary this year. It is from this album that such hits as: “One”, “Until the End of the World”, “Mysterious Ways” or “Love is Blindness” come from.
U2 – One
However, according to media reports, U2 will not return with a full line-up. We will not see drummer Larry Mullen on stage, who has had back surgery preventing him from playing. He will be replaced by Bram van den Berg from the Dutch band Krezip.
This decision caused great outrage among some fans of the band, who feel that the band should not perform without him. Some of them considered the change in the position of the drummer to be a betrayal, because the band has been playing in the same line-up for nearly 50 years. There are also those who believe that a Las Vegas residency just doesn’t suit a band like U2.
On the web you can read a lot of comments in which fans of the band express their disapproval of this idea. “I’ve seen U2 like twenty times in the last 25 years, but this time I’m out. Las Vegas doesn’t appeal to me at all. And without Larry? It’s just weird,” one user writes.
Although official concert sales have not yet started, fans of the band can already register on a special website to receive updates on tickets and concert dates. Despite a lot of negative feedback from fans, all tickets are expected to sell out in no time.
