As well as Scott Lang couldn’t believe he was part of The Avengersto the actor paul rudd it still seems unreal how long he has come with Marvel Studios since the first Ant-Man movie, released in 2015going through its sequel (2018), civil war (2016) and the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Although for the new Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Due to premiere in Ecuador on Thursday, February 16, they are ready to embrace their success and fortune. “My character has grown over the course of the nine years I’ve been playing him (…) he’s been through a lot and now he finally accepts who he is.”, Rudd said in a virtual press conference to which this newspaper was invited.
“This story, what happens, is crazy,” he emphasized. “Everything that happens in this film impacts everything that follows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Everything is highlighted, amplified, although there is still the family history, since the movie is basically about the family, but it’s much more dramatic and it’s even scary,” he said. “One thing that is unique about this movie, compared to the other two, is the scale, the size. It seems weird to talk about the scale and size of an Ant-Man movie, but it feels very relevant.”.
How do we find Scott when the movie begins?
A lot has happened to him in recent years. He is a man who was living a normal life until he committed a Robin Hood crime, because he is a good guy. He went to jail for a couple of years and then they recruited him to be a superhero. He joined the Avengers, went to the Quantum Realm, and when he came back, he saved the universe. (Avengers: Endgame, (2019). This movie begins after the events of end me, in a period when for the first time in many years, Scott is able to relax and spend time with his daughter, and be present in your own life. But it doesn’t last long.

One of the things I like about playing him is that there’s nothing extraordinary about it. He doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s not the god of thunder, he’s not big, green and super strong, he can’t fly either. He is an intelligent and intuitive man. Playing a character who didn’t want to be heroic but is forced to be heroic is very interesting.
What does it mean to you to play this character?
Scott Lang was very important to me and my life. I had never played a role for a long periodso it was a first for me to do it over the course of almost a decade. I have a very special bond with the character, with the franchise, with the company. I love playing him, and I’m very fond of Scott Lang and Ant-Man because of it.
It’s been almost a decade since I’ve been playing this character and that I’m part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It’s kind of unreal to step back a bit and look at things in perspective, like Scott does in the movie. It was amazing to be a part of all of that. I have been to many countries that I would never have gone to to promote the films; I visited many places and met many people. I loved the people I worked with, which is, after all, the main thing. We spend a lot of time together in these movies.
In civil war (2016), when I first meet Captain America and some of the other Avengers, that was the first time I filmed with them in real life. It was almost like we were in a locker room and we were all putting on our costumes. I put on the Ant-Man suit and I look over and see that Sebastian Stan is putting on his silver armor and Chris Evans is putting on his Captain America suit and Anthony Mackie is putting on his Falcon suit. Everything seemed unreal. I kind of felt like the character I was playing and even tried to bring some of that into the scene, being in awe of the superheroes around me. I still feel like Scott has a bit of that, like he’s like, “I can’t believe I’m on this team.”
How does it feel to be back on set with people you worked with on the previous Ant-Man movies?
You want to be happy with the people you work with, not just the actors, who are all great, but the entire crew, producers and executives at Marvel. It is a spectacular group of people with whom I had the pleasure of spending a good amount of time, and I really appreciate it very much.
It’s very nice to go back and work with the same actors. We all get along very well. I still can’t believe I’m working with Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas. It’s very nice to work with legendary actors, I don’t get used to it. I try to see how privileged and lucky I am to be performing with these people.
Peyton Reed, the director, is a terrific guy. I trust him blindly in terms of what he wants to do with the film, how he sees the scenes, what he thinks. He is a great collaborator. Evangeline (Lilly) and I have already worked together on three films, but this This is my first time working with Kathryn Newton (who plays her daughter Cassey Lang), who I adore. She is wonderful. She is very talented and he is a very sweet person.

Could you describe the relationship between Scott and Cassie?
That bond was always the most important thing in Scott’s life. They have a very strong relationship and I think there’s a lot of love between those two characters and that’s the central theme of all the movies. It was very interesting to see Kathryn transform into teenage Cassie and play someone who’s finding her own way, who wants to figure out who she is and maybe bump into her dad a little bit. Scott missed a lot of her life, so he wants to pick up the relationship where he left off and spend time together, have a normal life, and maybe she has other ideas.

Why should people watch this movie on the big screen?
On the one hand, it is an unbeatable experience: going to the movies is still the best. Also, this is a visually stunning film and the worlds it transports you to. There are some movies that when seen in the cinema, the experience is totally different, enhanced. And I think this is one of those movies.
