The Brazilian landscape and nature photographer Fernando Braga shared a series of photographs of electric shocks that fell on February 10 on the monument to Christ the Redeemer or Christ of Corcovado, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Braga explained that he recorded the rays that fell on the sculpture and on the Corcovado antennas between 18:55 and 19:3 yesterday, using a Nikon D800 camera.
The Brazilian media reported that the lightning strikes that struck the head of Christ left damage to the structure, the work of the French sculptor of Polish origin Paul Landowski.
There are at least 35 Landowski sculptures in Paris, but the most famous is the Corcovado, which represents Jesus of Nazareth extending his arms towards the city of Rio and towards the large tourist community that arrives every year, especially at Carnival time (February 20-21).
The 30-meter statue on a pedestal of additional eight meters is now 92 years old, since it was inaugurated in 1931. It is not only a tourist reference, but a place of pilgrimage for believers and a point of reference for artists such as Braga. (AND)
