They were prepared by the British Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and in the description we read that their intention was “to honor artists from Great Britain and the Commonwealth in connection with the upcoming coronation”. However, only representatives from three of them were included, while the playlist included three performers from other countries. The esteemed British singer was also missing.

According to British media, the “Coronation Celebration Playlist” originally consisted of 28 tracks, but it was decided to abandon the inclusion of rapper Dizzee Rascal, who was convicted of brutally assaulting his partner last year. “Treat People With Kindness” by Harry Styles, the playlist begins with “Come Together” from The Beatles’ album, considered one of the most important achievements in the history of British music – “Abbey Road”. In 1965, all members of The Beatles received Orders of the Fifth Class, the Knights (MBE), but some of them later resigned. Although Paul McCartney proudly introduces himself as “sir”, George Harrison refused to “upgrade” his award from CBE to OBE, and John Lennon returned the MBE.

Since decorated Beatles were included, many thought the list would include Elton John, who has also addressed himself as “sir” in recognition of his charitable work since 1998. Moreover, he was friends with Princess Dian, and performed the famous “Candle in the Wind” at her funeral. However, “Rocket Man” or “I’m Still Standing” will not be included in the list. However, there are artists who are not from the UK – they are German with Boney M, Jamaican singer Grace Jones and Canadian Michael Bublé.

Music will also grace the coronation itself. The day after, on May 7, a coronation concert will take place at Windsor Castle. The orchestra will play a specially prepared repertoire consisting of the new king’s favorite musical pieces, and will be accompanied by world-class artists.
