This case has angered many internet users as it concerns virtually all citizens of this country. The popular medical influencer Mama Ginekolog, or Nicole Sochacki-Wójcicka, in one of the last live broadcasts on Instagram, admitted that she was accepting additional patients, friends and family out of order.
Kuba Sienkiewicz comments on the scandal related to Mama Gynecologist and talks about the state of the Polish health service
Opinions on this matter are divided, but more often you can meet the irritation of Internet users who point out that not everyone can be in such a privileged position to have a person in the family or among friends who works in the health service. There are also those who praise the behavior of the influencer, saying that it is a way to reduce the queues in front of the offices.
However, the matter has gone much further and is not just an internet drama. The facility where she works, i.e. the University Center for Women’s and Newborn Health of the Medical University of Warsaw and the National Health Fund, demand explanations from the doctor-influencer. Many politicians also took the floor.
The editors of the portal decided to ask for an opinion on accepting patients outside the line of one of the most famous musicians among doctors, Kuba Sienkiewicz. He is a neurologist and the leader of the pop rock group Electric Gitary. His children form the music band Kwiat Jabłoni.
The musician confessed that he also sometimes practices receiving out of turn. This is justified by the specificity of the clinic where she works:
In a consultation clinic with this profile (movement disorders) it is impossible to effectively treat them based on the dates available on the National Health Fund. Our patients often experience sudden complications and require additional advice. I just need to make sure it’s not at the expense of scheduled patients
Later in the interview, he explains that he admits family and friends only “if they have an urgent referral (quickly)”. Sienkiewicz believes that such visits do not cause disadvantages for other patients, because then he simply stays after hours. When asked if all doctors are “stuffing extra visits”, he answers as follows:
I believe that in every specialty there are patients with sudden problems that require additional admission for an appointment
The musician and doctor believes that “everyone has to be like that” because the current health care system is increasingly inefficient. However, it indicates that it is not worth working overtime, because then the quality of work decreases.
However, when it comes to the opinion on the statement of Mama Gynecologist and whether she should bear the consequences, Sienkiewicz is restrained. He doesn’t want to judge her because he says he doesn’t know enough about how a woman works:
The mere additional advice after official working hours does not harm other patients. If a referral for an examination is issued during an extra-scheduled visit, the “harmfulness” of the act depends on whether the dates for this examination are difficult to access. If this is not the case, then we should not be held accountable. Unfortunately, the National Health Fund has the power to impose a penalty when it justifies it.
