13. pension 2023 will be lower? The government has still not decided on a key issue

According to the regulation of the Ministry of Finance, the thirteenth pension was exempt from tax only in 2022. Although today we know that this year’s benefit will be PLN 1,588.44 gross, there is still no certainty as to its net amount. Time is running out and there is no government decision. Will some seniors have to pay tax on it?

Thirteen payouts are just around the corner. Why is it still unknown how much money will go to seniors?

The thirteenth pension is an additional benefit to financially support seniors. The government paid it for the first time 4 years ago, and from 2020 it is guaranteed by law. This year it is to amount to PLN 1,588.44 gross, i.e. as much as the minimum pension.

While this year’s payouts, which are scheduled for April, are only a few weeks away, it’s still unclear exactly how much money will hit the accounts. Why? The portal points out that the regulation that exempted this benefit from tax was in force only in 2022. This means that there is a chance that this time a large part of seniors will have to account for it. All because of the lack of new regulations.

If the rules do not change, these seniors will receive less money from the 13th pension

Pursuant to the current regulations, only benefits up to PLN 2,500 gross are exempt from the tax. It should be remembered that on March 31 there will be a record indexation, which will translate into the amount of pensions. As Fakt.pl notes, “only people with very low pensions do not have to be afraid of such a PIT from the age of thirteen.”

According to the portal’s calculations, only people who currently have a gross pension of PLN 794 or less do not have to worry about deductions from “”. Unless the law changes, seniors who receive higher benefits will face tax deductions. What’s more, the same problem may also apply to the “fourteen”, which are scheduled to be paid at the turn of August and September.
