‘Gladiator 2’ will hit theaters in 2024 with a new face, that of actor Paul Mescal

The second part of the 2000 film Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe It will be released in movie theaters in 2024. The one chosen to take over from the New Zealand actor is the Irishman Paul Mescal, 27.

In early 2018, Ridley Scott confirmed that he had begun work on the script for the sequel to Gladiator. He had been proposing that sequel for years along with screenwriter Peter Craig.

This time, the story will focus on the adult life of Lucio, the grandson of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus’ nephew.

Mescal is the Bafta Award Winner 2020 for his performance in the miniseries normal people, and was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy. He made his film debut with the psychological drama The Lost Daughterin 2021, and was the lead in the dramas of 2022 God’s Creatures and aftersun.

His role as a troubled father in this latest film won him an Oscar nomination and a Bafta. Since 2022 he has been regularly in the play A Streetcar Named Desirein the role of Stanley Kowalski.
