Can a micro-budget movie become a hit in today’s world? As you can see, nothing stands in the way. In recent months, horror fans have been lively discussing Skinamarink, the film that debuted at the Montreal Fantasia Film Festival in July 2022.
Skinamarink is the scariest horror movie of the year?
The Canadian production cost the creators only 15,000 dollars, but it made a huge impression on the viewers. The title was immediately noticed by the well-known horror streamer – the Shrudder platform, which plans to release the title around Halloween 2023.
The film is the directorial debut of Kyle Edward Ball, who created a terrifying story about two young children who wake up in the middle of the night in their home. The building is devoid of windows, doors, and there are no parents in any of the rooms.

The production was shot with almost no dialogue or shots of the actors’ faces. Darkness prevails on the screen, and the whole thing resembles an artistic installation.
“After screening at the Fantasia festival, early viewers described their experience as unmatched by any previous horror film, and spoke of a feeling of terror that lingered long after the film was filmed. In US theaters, the $15,000 horror has already grossed $1.5 million, and theaters fill “Skinamarink” is already being talked about as a phenomenon comparable to Paranormal Activity and the Blair Witch Project.” – we read in the description of the production.
Interestingly, “Skinamarink” will go to Polish cinemas for three days. After this date, the film will never be shown publicly at any screening or in any cinema in Poland.
