Murray Bartlett already impressed in “White Lotus”, but after “The Last of Us” everyone will remember his name

There is nothing to hide, Murray Bartlett probably went down in television history thanks to the role of Frank in the third episode in which he played alongside the well-known, among others. from “Parks and recreations”.

Murray Bartlett as Frank in “The Last of Us” broke the bank again

The creators of the high-profile series, which has already been hailed as the best screen adaptation of a computer game, develop a thread that we will not see in the game. Bill (Nick Offerman) after civilization collapses, does not allow himself to be herded into a separate quarantine zone and creates a closed enclave in his old neighborhood (surrounded by an electric fence and various types of barbed wire), in which he leads as normal as possible, life. One day he meets Frank, who falls into his trap. Something begins to happen that neither of them expected after the apocalypse happened. This is definitely one of the most beautiful, romantic, endearing and smartest episodes of the show I’ve ever seen. I did not expect that in such a series I would cry like a beaver, because I will be so moved by a beautiful story about two people who find love in the middle of the apocalypse.

In the first season of “White Lotus”, Murray Bartlett played Armond, the hotel manager in Hawaii so well that he won an Emmy Award for it. The role turned out to be a breakthrough, and the viewers are delighted with it, if only because of the very loud scene in which, as part of revenge on an extremely troublesome hotel guest, his hero has a “fecal incident” with his suitcase.

Interestingly, Bartlett admitted in one of the interviews that before he recorded the audition tape for Mike White’s series, he had serious doubts about whether it made sense to pursue an acting career. It was the middle of a pandemic and there were many indications that the entertainment industry might not survive this crisis. Murray came to the casting with his already famous mustache. As he said in one of the late night shows, he grew them because he was with his Egyptian partner in his homeland, where everyone wore such facial hair – he wanted to blend in with the surroundings so as not to stand out too much. It helped, and many laugh that it was thanks to them that he won the role.

“The Last Of Us” is not the end of Murray Bartlett’s interesting roles, because recently you can also watch the sensational true crime series “Welcome to Chipepndales”. Here, Murray plays Nick de Noia, the Emmy Award-winning choreographer who is partly behind the success of the famous male stripper formation. Already the opening credits of the series look sensational, and then it turns out that we have a great cast and a plot based on real events.

We learn that the Chippendales were popularized by Somen Banerjee (played by Kumail Nanjiani, known for such productions as “I Love You So Much”, “Silicon Valley”, “Twilight Zone”. Luareat of the Independent Spirit Award) – an immigrant from India who, fascinated by the phenomenon Hugh Hefner first wanted to open a card club in Los Angeles where people would play backgammon. Amazingly, the idea doesn’t work, but thanks to his partner Paul Snider (Dan Stevens) and his wife Dorothy Stratten (Nicola Peltz), he comes up with the idea to start a club with exotic dancers who will dance only for women. Because it’s something no one else offers. As history shows, it worked brilliantly. However, few of us know how dramatic events accompanied the birth of this concept. And Murray Bartlet is phenomenal there as a choreographer who came up with the idea that each show must have a different dance routine, costumes and theme.

What’s more, the role of Nick was also given to Bartlett on conditions, because the actor has a lot of Broadway experience. In 2006, he took part in the promotional tour of the musical “The Boy from Oz” with Hugh Jackman.

Bartlett has previously performed in as Oliver Spencer in “Sex and the City” or in the famous “Neighbors”, which is the longest-running Australian soap opera, starring probably all famous Australian actors and celebrities (including Kylie Minogue, all three Hemsworth brothers, i.e. Chris, Liam and Luke). Interestingly, in 2022 it was announced that the cult series, which Princess Diana and the Queen Mother supposedly watched with passion, was to go off the air after years. Even an epic farewell episode featuring Kylie Minogue was recorded, but the production was ultimately saved from cancellation by Amazon.

Murray Bartlett was born on March 20, 1971 in Sydney. He studied acting at Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), interestingly, Cate Blanchett was studying there at the same time. Bartlett made his debut with a guest appearance in the series “Flying Doctors”, he also appeared in the soap opera “Bay of Hearts”. His breakthrough on the American market was a short adventure with “Sex and the City”. Around the same time, he also appeared in McLeod’s Daughters. Then he played in such productions as “The Secret of Life”, “All My Children”, “Escape into Space”, “Obituary”, “Guiding Lught” or another HBO series “Spojrzenia”. In 2014, he officially came out in the magazine “Out”.

After “Looks” we had to wait a while for his next television role, but he appeared in “Iron Fist”, in 2019 he appeared in Netflix’s “Tales from San Francisco”. Then he was the Australian Prime Minister in “Madam Secretary” and “White Lotus” was next. Apple TV users can also see him in the series “Physical”, in which he plays Vinnie Green, a fitness instructor. The same platform already announces that the actor will appear in the latest production “Extrapolations”. The cast includes only stars: Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, David Schwimmer, Marion Cotillard, Tobey Maguire and Edward Norton. Everything indicates that Bartlett has already permanently joined the Hollywood pantheon.
