“Pogrom 1905” is a book by Wacław Holewiński published in 2018. The novel is to reveal to the reader little-known events from Polish history, against which the shady interests of the Warsaw underworld, criminal scandals, assassinations and love affairs unfold.
A new historical series on TVP. When is the premiere of “Moth Hunt”
Based on the novel, the series “Hunting for moths” was created, previously known under the working title “Pogrom 1905. Love and Disgrace”. It will show the history of Poland and Poles under Russian partition. It will focus on the fate of two women who, in the light of revolutionary moods and turbulent events, want to change their lives.
According to Wirtualne Media, the series was shot in 2021, and we can expect the broadcast of the first of the seven planned episodes of the series in spring 2023 on TVP1.
The production description reads:
“The explosion of a bomb planted by a young revolutionary begins the story of the events that shook the life of Warsaw. Russian repressions bring Poles closer and closer to the independence uprising. The situation is so tense that the head of the tsarist Okhrana decides to redirect the crowd’s attention to another track, provoking riots in the city customary.”

The series will feature Sonia Mietielica, known from “The Guilty Century”, Monika Krzywkowska (“39 and a Half Weeks”), and Piotr Nerlewski (“War Girls”). The director of the production is Michał Rogalski, who has already made many Polish productions, such as “The Guilty Century”, “War Girls”, “Hitler’s Aunt” or “Time of Honor”.
The author of the book “Pogrom 1905” has already seen the TVP series. He reviewed the production on his social media.
“I saw the raw version a few months ago. Now it’s a completely different, much better (but that’s what I expected) film. It’s more than good, undoubtedly evokes emotions. Can there be anything more important for a film? Warsaw 1905, a mixture of languages: Polish, Russian, Yiddish. An unknown episode in the history of Warsaw. I can say with full responsibility: there has never been such a film in Polish cinema yet, “Wacław Holewiński comments on the series, but the film will also be made.
Based on “Hunting for Moths”, the creators are also planning a full-length production, which is to be released in cinemas in the second half of 2023.
