A pensioner ID is a document that entitles you to discounts, e.g. on public transport, medicines in a pharmacy, rehabilitation or other services. Discounts are available to everyone upon presentation of a document. This is issued by the Social Insurance Institution to persons with the right to an old-age, disability or teacher compensatory benefit.

The introduction of the ID card in electronic form is to be a facilitation for seniors. The changes were introduced on January 1, 2023. Seniors who will be entitled to the benefit after this date will receive only the mLigitymacja. In order to obtain an ID card in the traditional form, i.e. a plastic card, one should submit an application to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS).
In the case of persons who acquired the right to benefits before January 1, 2023, access to mLegitymacja will be automatically granted. What is important, plastic documents will also remain valid– Retirees and pensioners who received an identity card in the form of a plastic identification card before January 1 will automatically receive an electronic version and will be able to use both documents – ZUS President Gertruda Uścińska.

To download mLegitymacja, install the mObywatel application on your phone. Then, after selecting the “Add document” option, the option to add a pensioner’s ID card will be displayed on the list.
