This Thursday December 15 was suspended the virtual session by protection action presented by the Ecuadorian Chamber Ballet, a private, non-profit entity that has been receiving a fiscal budget since 1990, but is now about to close its operations due to lack of it. The suspension of the key hearing to find out the fate of this artistic entity was decided by constitutional judge Germán Grandes, responding to the allegations of the Ministry of Economy and the Benjamín Carrión House of Ecuadorian Culture, which indicated that they did not have time to prepare the respective defense in this case.
It is that the Ballet de Cámara presented a protection action before the courts claiming the allocation of $1,552,665, that would allow it to continue operating and make free presentations nationwide, pay the salaries of its 101 workers and maintain education for at least 200 students. Previously, the Casa de la Cultura provided resources from an item of the General State Budget provided by the Ministry of Finance. However, at the end of 2021 said agreement ended and it was not renewed. The Ballet signed another agreement with the Universidad del Norte, so that the latter grants it the budget, always coming from Finance. The latter has not happened.
While the hearing was taking place, dancers demonstrated their support for the cause of the Ballet, with artistic dances.
This protection action was presented last Thursday, December 8, in the Judicial Unit for Family, Women, Children and Adolescents, with the aim of having direct, effective and immediate protection of the rights recognized in the Constitution. Likewise, last Monday, December 12, a amicus curiae before the Ombudsman of Ecuador.
These measures are taken in view of what they consider to be an inaction by the Ministry of Finance by not making viable the disbursement of the budget item that would correspond to the Ecuadorian Chamber Ballet.
in the last twenty years the Ballet has made 4,115 free presentations and has had 3.6 million spectators. (YO)
