“¦Holy War” debuted on the Polish TV channel Two exactly on January 23, 2000. Although almost 15 years have passed since the broadcast of the last episode, the production popularizing Silesian culture still enjoys great interest among viewers and has a group of devoted fans.
The plot of the series “Holy War”. Who played the iconic heroes?
“Holy War” is a story about the life adventures of Zbyszek Pyciakowski (Zbigniew Buczkowski), who is trying to find himself in the Silesian reality. He is helped by his former friend from the army, Bercik (Krzysztof Hanke), and his wife Andzia (Joanna Bartel), who are native Silesians. Bercik is famous for his crazy ideas, which he implements with a little help from his friend Gerard (Bogdan Kalus). As it turns out, an idea is half the battle, and an idea without a plan ends in failure.
“Holy War” had as many as 10 seasons, during which 322 episodes were broadcast. Mariusz Bielecki and Dariusz Goczał were responsible for directing the production, which became a hit among the audience. Native Silesians appeared in the roles of supporting characters in the series, including Ryszard Zaorski, Krzysztof Respondek, Grzegorz Stasiak, Józef Polok and Gertruda Szalsza.
It’s been 15 years since the show ended. What’s up with the actors playing the main roles?
Zbigniew Buczkowski, who plays the role of Pyciakowski, is currently 71 years old. The actor constantly appears on the screen in the series “Lombard. Life under pawn”, in which he plays one of the main roles. Viewers can also associate him with “Colors of Happiness”.

The aforementioned production also features Krzysztof Hanke, who after the end of “Holy War” devoted himself to performing in the RAK Cabaret. The actor is also an avid sailor and has been realizing his dreams for years, e.g. crossing the Atlantic.

In turn, the serial Andzia, or Joanna Bartel, retired from show business a few years ago. The reason was health problems. This year, the actress celebrates her 71st birthday and it must be admitted that she looks phenomenal. Little has changed since its production.
