Ronald Selig was one of the show’s very popular participants. The 66-year-old died in a tragic accident at work. Ron fell from the roof of the workshop from a height of almost 6 meters. The injuries from the fall from such a great height turned out to be fatal for Selig.
The circumstances of the tragic incident are still being investigated, said Resources Safety & Health Queensland, the local independent body that oversees the safety of workers in the mining industry.
“A worker went onto the roof of the workshop to repair damage caused by rapid weather changes. One of the structural elements failed and caused it to fall from a height of about 5.8 meters straight to the ground,” RS&HQ describes the accident.

Selig’s death was announced on social media by Outback Opal Hunters.
“Ron was a much loved member of the ‘Outback Opal Hunters’ family. He had a great personality and was an amazing gem hunter who always followed his color,” the show’s Facebook page reads.
The daughter of the deceased man thanked the crew of the program and fans of the series – “Thank you all for your love, kindness and condolences. Losing my father was the hardest time in my life for me and our whole family. He was an amazing son, dad, grandfather and friend. He was kind, caring and he loved to have fun. He always told the funniest jokes.”
The tragedy happened on November 26, 2022.
