The screenwriter of well-known Polish series does not complain about her retirement. The same amount outraged others

Ilona Łepkowska has been working in the industry for many years. She is the screenwriter of some of the most popular Polish series and films. She does not complain about her earnings, and has also decided to pay her pension contributions honestly. Today, she says she doesn’t have to worry about her future.

Łepkowska wrote screenplays for, among others, to “Colors of Happiness”, “For good and for bad”, “Crowns of Kings” or “M jak miłość”. She also became involved in the film industry, working on the productions of “Och, Karol”, “Kogel-mogel” and “Nie lie darling”. The screenwriter admitted that she is entitled to an average pension. Although the amount is not high in her opinion, she is not worried about her future, unlike many representatives of the artistic community who did not hide their indignation at the similar amount of benefits. Amounts in a similar range may also be collected by Karol Strasburger (PLN 1,500-2,000), Beata Tyszkiewicz (PLN 1,400) or Maryla Rodowicz (PLN 1,600). Unlike some, Łepkowska is not surprised by the amount of her pension.

First of all, I paid pension contributions for myself, which not everyone did, and I have a normal Social Security pension. This is not a high pension, at the moment it is about PLN 1,350 or PLN 1,400 after the increase. On the other hand, I tried to save, not to spend everything I earned, because I know that sometimes there are hard times and a person does not have a job, there are no professional offers, this is the case in all freelance professions.

She warned those who live less responsibly

She raised this issue a few years ago in the “Money. It counts” program, when she received even less – PLN 1,314.

I never complained about it. I’m not an idiot, I graduated from economics studies and I know that it is related to contributions. In the last period, when I paid them, they amounted to over PLN 1,000 a month. For creators earning little and irregularly, this is an amount that is difficult for them to take out of their pockets every month.

– she said, referring to people from the industry who consciously decide to pay lower contributions or completely resign from paying ZUS fees. – If someone who is a freelancer lives from day to day and spends all the money on a regular basis, then it is very unwise. I am reasonable. I tried to accumulate some savings and have a safe old age and retirement – she summed up the risks of a less thoughtful lifestyle than the one she leads.

Łepkowska also makes a living from royalties for productions created years ago, which are still broadcast on television. Although she did not provide exact numbers, she admitted that these amounts are not high and depend on numerous external factors, including television revenue in a given year, which is then divided by the airtime occupied by its films or series. – A small penny comes out of it, e.g. 50 groszy per minute – revealed the screenwriter.
